Welcome to the Home Page of the
White Horse Model Club
The White Horse Model Club was formed in 1975 and meeting at the Thomas
Hughes Memorial Hall in the village at the foot of the famous Berkshire White
Horse chalk figure carved in the hill side, hence the name of the club and
logo. At the start the club catered for all modelling disciplines, and we do
mean all. Everything from duct fan R/C jets to steam locomotives to detailed
plastic models. Many members were witnessed having a trial in field they might
not have tried otherwise. However the club had a predominant lean towards
flying model aircraft and model railways. The railway modellers faced major
problems over the permanent erection of the clubs layout and in 198X the club
split into two, one for model aircraft and one for the railway enthusiasts. The
Aeromodellers retained the WHMC name but the original venue was less suitable to
their needs so a move was made to the Royal British Legion at Challow a smaller
venue but still sufficiently large to fly round-the-pole (RTP) models.
The WHMC prides it's self in having a relaxed atmosphere where
encouragement and advice are always at hand. We do however have rules that must
be followed. Because the WHMC takes a responsible attitude to noise monitoring
and safety, it has enjoys good relationships with the landowner, his tenants and
users of the nearby Ridgeway
Though our flying field is not suitable for all type of model aircraft
members do have interests and involvement in everything from indoor flying to
gas turbine jets. The cultivated grass strip is best suited radio control and
has a wide mix of sport and scale models from all generations. The WHMC was one
of the first clubs in this country to practice aero-towing of gliders behind a
tug and each year organises an informal aero-tow event which has become a
popular for scale gliders and tugs.
We have many experienced members, with skills in most aspects of
aeromodelling, and advice, training and practical help is readily available to
members, should you require it.
The WHMC meets on the fourth Thursday of each month from September to April.
The meetings are a mix of club business and guest speakers, presentations and
events........................ If you would like further details of the program
please contact one of the Committee.
Club meetings are held at the Royal British Legion, Challow, Nr. Wantage,
Oxfordshire, UK. Meetings start at 7.30pm.
